The total time it will take to get a private pilot license varies with every student. How much time a student can dedicate to studying and flying consistently plays a big part in their progress.

The FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight time (at least 10 solo hours) for a Private Pilot license. However, most students will need more time than 40 hours. For planning purposes it would be best to figure on 50 to 60 hours of flying time, which is the national average.
